GraphicMail on the mobile scene: Mobile World Congress

by Wikus Engelbrecht 25. February 2011 00:51

The recent Mobile World Congress, hosted in Barcelona, showcased the latest and best developments in the world of mobile – and mobile marketing.  GraphicMail Spain represented GraphicMail at this industry-leading event.

A strong online presence and strategy has proven to be key to communication and marketing success in a digital age, and with the recent growth in mobile capability and market share, marketers are scrambling to up their mobile game.  This year’s Congress hosted more than 60,000 international visitors, with companies like Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Nokia, Vodafone and Acer in strong representation.

According to Rafael Biancardi, the MD of GraphicMail Spain, 95% of the exhibitions were focused on smartphones and tablets, and great focus was placed on developing apps that don’t only reach iPhone users, but also reaches users across all operating systems (Symbian, Android, etc.).  In his own words: “Apps, apps and more apps everywhere!”
Apparently, Android was definitely the star of the show – not surprising their rapid growth in market share.

A few interesting findings from the Congress:
•    Bluetooth is dead.  So is SMS.  Instead, it’s time to focus on sending SMS texts that include links to online sites, apps and utilities.
•    The rise of mobile bodes well for developments in geolocalization.

GraphicMail plans on releasing some exciting new mobile developments within the next few months – and word has it, there was nothing like it to be found at the Mobile Congress!  Rafael reported that, judging by the mobile enthusiasm at the event, these new developments will make our GraphicMailers smile…

In the mean time, take a look at our GraphicMail iPhone app and let us know what you think.  We plan on releasing the app to more operating systems as soon as beta phase testing is complete!
